Injury

So I was helping Grant up the stairs and into our house and was using my one hand to grab his wrist arm area and pulled him up one step. Well guess what? He started crying. I thought maybe he was tired and angry that we had to come inside. He kept crying and pointed to his wrist. I thought "oh no! I hope I didn't sprain his wrist!" He kept crying and I moved his arm around to see how it affected him and he obviously didn't like it. I thought maybe the pain would pass as some injuries do. So we started doing lunch and Grant kept crying some times depending on how he moved with his arm. So I called the doctor fearing I had done something more serious to his arm. We luckily got in right away and Perry and I could have sworn it was a wrist injury but the doctor, without looking at him said it was most definitely an elbow thing because it would be really hard to do something painful to a child's wrist. Perry and I were thinking "yeah right, he is holding his wrist, not his elbow. We even touched his elbow and it didn't seem painful". Lo and behold he felt the elbow and popped it back into place! What? We let the pain subside and then the doctor said to let him play a little to see if he would use his right arm normally. He began to and then the doctor explained how some tendon or other gets nudged under some other body part (meaning dislocated) and it pinches and causes pain whenever he moves his wrist. So that is why he was holding his wrist. He also said that it doesn't matter how hard or gentle a person pulls on the arm. You just have to be at the correct angle of pulling force to cause it to happen and can be very easy to do. Well I'm never doing that again. He said the elbow will be easily dislocated for a couple days so to be careful.  As a child I dislocated my arm and my mom said she knew that my kids would possibly have that happen to them because of me. Maybe its genetic, maybe not.

My sister and brother were babysitting me and my sister thought I should go to bed and my brother thought I should play so they basically played tug-o-war with my arms back and forth, Amber pulling towards my room, Blake pulling towards the play area. Then my arm got pulled out of the socket and I went to bed. My mom didn't know anything happened to me until the next morning, where my arm felt very stiff and sore and she brought me in to get it put back in place. Most injured I've ever been, thank goodness. No broken bones.

To celebrate Grant doing so well at the doctor's we went and got some McDonald's and he gets to have more movie time than normal. So yeah. That's been the event of the day.

Wasp Sting

So I was outside conversing with a friend who was about to go on a date with here hubby. She was dropping off her kids. So I stepped outside for like 1 minute tops to welcome them.  Then I came inside and noticed a lump on my leg above my knee. I thought maybe a piece of wood got up there? Well I sat down to pull up my pant leg...lo and behold it was a wasp! So I was trying to hurry around to the kitchen as to not be indecent in front of the kids to take off my pants. The wasp was nowhere, it must have climbed a bit higher! So I was trying to find it and it stung me above my knee! Ouch! I haven't been stung since I was like 8 years old! If I was sleepy then I was now wide awake and in throbbing pain. The pain subsided and it was just like localized throbbing, some swelling and such. I called my mom because I couldn't remember what people do when they get stung. Plus I wanted some sympathy.  So she said to put some baking soda paste on it. Then while the kids finally played inside I checked online to see what other remedies people do. There was the baking soda paste, then also baking soda and vinegar paste (which I later put on before bed), and also putting a raw onion on it, which is most helpful for immediate pain relief as well as sucking the poison out. So anyway, I opted out for the onion because I didn't feel like smelling like an onion at the time, and am glad for a smart mommy to tell me immediately what I should do. There is now a small bump there and a bit of tenderness but I think the poison is basically out. I don't know how to be more cautious but I guess I will try and will have better empathy for someone who gets stung in the future. Hopefully no one will, and especially not myself or Grant. But the wasps are everywhere in my yard. Hmm.

24 Week Check Up

So we had our check up today. In a nutshell me and baby are doing great! I weigh 170 which I thought was a little high meaning I gained 8 pounds this last month but the CRNM said that it was fine. I personally think it has to do with Easter candy and Perry's birthday. So I could definitely cut out the handfuls of sugar I have been feeding myself, especially when I have my glucose tolerance test next month! Blood pressure 110 over 74. The belly measures 24 cm which is interesting to me that the cm measure exactly with what week your on. Crazy! Baby is transverse and we heard the beloved heartbeat; 155 bpm. The baby kept kicking the doppler lol. I say we because it was the first time I brought Grant to an appointment. It was a great day to do it too because he got to sleep in and eat a great breakfast no rush. Then I was all prepared with snacks and toys. He was quite the angel. I think he would have been really bad if the appointment was any earlier because that would have meant a rush or in the car breakfast and possibly waking him up too. So it was fantastic. I don't think I will bring him next time because they will be doing a blood draw and when he came with Perry to the appointment with me Grant freaked out when they poked me.  So actually he has been but I just was by my self this time. I was kind of worried because when he came last time he was all over the place. Quite the contrast.
These are just some cute pictures of Grant in the last couple weeks.

I'm selling this car seat and Grant wanted in it. He kept saying "Grant's car seat".  He must remember it.

Grants over 2 now and he barely goes above the allowed weight and height!

I was thinking of selling this one too but was reading online about it and tried it out with a baby doll and it works pretty well. Guess I'm keeping it.

Grant wanted to be a part of the photo shoot.

Anyway the fun part was when Grant got to hear the heart beat too. After that Grant said, "Baby's heartbeat sound, whoa whoa whoa whoa!" It was so cute! So here is a video demonstration:

Nothing Blog

So I feel like I haven't blogged in a while so I just decided to try blogging something to tell the world about my life. Usually I have things to talk about because of Grant and as I write things will come to mind but nothing "exciting" has been happening around here. I'm anxious for spring to just be here. I don't want below 50 degree weather. I used to think 40 and up was nice. Now I won't go outside and am even hesitant to want to go out side when the weather is in the 50s. I'm just ready for 60 and up weather. I am also excited about gardening. I have a gardening planner online called smartgardener.com and I put my dimensions of my garden on it and then selected what I want to plant this year. Then as the weeks pass every so often I get an email telling me what I need to do that week to prepare for my garden. So this last week I was supposed to start germinating my pepper and tomato plants. I was told by my mom last year to  just buy those types of plants but for this very reason. I was not prepared last year with already germinated plants. But this year I went and bought some seeds and a "germinating" kit, basically same thing as putting soil in an egg carton and planting seeds and keeping it moist until little plants appear.  So then the plants will be right on track with how big they are supposed to be when they will be planted outside by the last frost date. Anyway, I love growing plants. The miracle of something so great coming from a little seed is a wonderful reminder of how God has designed everything and has a plan for everything and everyone of course. But he designed and created this beautiful world of order and beauty. Enough order in fact to work on its own. People are different of course, we need his guiding hand in our lives but plants and animals just do their thing the way they are supposed to and it all works out. So I'm excited to watch my plants grow and produce fruit. Also I hope to instill this love of plant growing in Grant. Its more me having fun planting but I hope he will see how fun it is while watering them and seeing the change in them. So I bought a couple flower varieties to plant with him in egg cartons and then we can transplant them outside when they get bigger. He loved watering the garden with me last year so this year should be even more fun with him being older and all.
Other nothings and ramblings.... Oh! Perry and I celebrated our 4th anniversary. It was a delightful day.   It was the last official day of the semester not including finals. So he only had to attend one class and had previously asked for the day off from work and made up the time on his nothing day of Thursday, when he would have normally been at school and work he just had work so we could make up for that lost moulah. So he came home and we decided to play a little tennis. Just vollying back and forth. Neither of us knows how to play for real. Which is kind of sad because I took lessons as a kid and my mom and I would go to the park around 6:30am in the morning in the summer time and go "play" some tennis together. Somehow I didn't learn the rules or how to score. That is on my to do list to read up on it. I really want to know. I love tennis! Grant was pretty hilarious to watch. He would chase the extra balls around the court and then toss a ball over the net for me to hit to him. He definitely wore himself out. It was so funny because we were on a 3 court area and he would run almost the entire stretch of courts just to get one runaway ball. He had a blast thought and so did we. I actually found a raquet his size at Walmart and kind of impulsively bought it for him. He's going to be a pro for sure lol.
After tennis we went to play minigolf, then put Grant down for nap time and napped as well, then dropped him off at a friends while we went and had a lovely romantic dinner at Macaroni Grill. Its nice going out to eat on a week night so the place wasn't busy at all and I chose the best dish possible. I'm not good at ordering food at non american restaurants but I asked a bazillion questions so I managed this time. We ordered 2 appetizers: Fried zucchini and cheese balls, had the complimentary bread, ordered a raspberry lemonade, and Perry ordered a Pomegranate Basil chiller, I got some creamy mushroom ravioli with caramelized onions, and Perry got some breaded chicken thing. It was divine. We were too full to get dessert! Shocking I know!!! I was really looking forward to dessert. Oh well. We rented Puss in Boots and had a nice relaxing evening. It was quite the day!
I am very much looking forward to Perry's birthday this Tuesday! I have several things in store for him. I need to make up for my lack of preparation last year and make this year better. I didn't do much for him last year except for make a requested dinner and dessert and give him presents. And it was his big 25th last year for goodness sakes. So this year will be the more celebrated 26th lol. Anyway, I'm sure you feel obligated to keep reading but are sick of my ramblings. I'm super excited about Baby girl. Vote on the side bar if you haven't on facebook what name variation you like the best!

"2 year" well check

Grant went to the doctors and was checked like all children of course. He was also due for one more immunization. He hadn't had one since he was 12 months old. Anyway his weight was 23 lbs.. up 2 pounds in the last 8 months. His height was 34 inches...up 2 inches from the last 8 months. How funny. I wonder if pounds and height will correlate for a while. He is staying on his own growing curve which is good. He is in the 25th percentile for height and under the 5th for weight. He grew that last inch in the last month so the doctor said thats why he is probably so skinny. I honestly couldn't tell he was super skinny or not. He is just my boy. He looks the same as always to me. :) He is right on with all his milestones. He did not like the measuring his body part because we made him lie down. He cried. But he didn't cry when they gave him a shot. He was a big boy and I warned him that they were going to poke him and it would hurt. After he was like "mommy cry?" like asking if he was allowed to. I was like yes you can cry. He just whimpered a couple times and then I asked if he needed a hug and he said "yeah". Anyway, successful doctor trip. He still likes them. Plus he doesn't need anymore shots until he's in kindergarten! Anyway he did great. I'm proud of him.

Day before Easter egg hunt.

The spoils of the hunt.

Painting with some sidewalk paint. It looks really bright after it dries.

Official Meltdown.

So today I was really excited to have almost scored the car seat I have been googly eyes for online. They were selling it practically new and a great price! I was so excited and showed my mom and sister and whoever else I could show and tell them about it. So I was to go there and pick it up at 6:30pm. We agreed on the price and everything. Then I confirmed the time to let them know nothing has changed and she calls me and tells me that they sold it to someone who could come earlier and pay more. What the freak?! I was so angry. That is not good etiquette. I mean we had an appointment for crying out loud. They could have told me that someone else was looking and had said they would pay more. If I knew I would have matched the price. I really wanted that car seat.

So I had an emotional breakdown. I haven't been emotional at all this pregnancy. Earlier today I could tell I was more emotional than my normal self. Then this event must have tipped my pregnant emotional scale. I started bawling my eyes out. Grant was looking at my with such concern in his eyes. I left him where he stood and tried to compose my self in the bathroom. But he followed me and said he wanted to give me a hug. He was very concerned and continued to look at me with worry. I obviously don't cry very often or else he would have not thought much of it. Anyway, I tried really hard to compose myself but continued to have tears streaming my face for the next 3 hours. About now is when I feel empty and wishing I could have bought the car seat. But we all know things wouldn't have been as dramatic if I weren't already emotional. If I wasn't I probably would have been slightly upset with their poor etiquette and brushed it off.

Well I guess what was fortunate about my situation tonight is Perry took pity on me and said that if I couldn't find one just as good online on KSL or craigslist by July I could buy the car seat I want brand new. Sounds good to me! Of course I was not trying to manipulate him but sympathetic husbands tend to want to coddle a crying spouse. It didn't make me stop crying. I just couldn't control anything but I'm not crying right now. But still sad. Ugh. It reminds me when I had postpartum depression with Grant and how stinking hard it was to pull myself out of that. Anyway, I guess I will start looking on line for sure just in case I get the brand new one and be totally sure what car seat I want. But I'm still pretty sure it will be the one I have already been thinking about. Lets hope for a happier tomorrow.

Ultrasound Pictures

So instead of scanning these baby pictures I will just take a picture of it. I just can't cut each of them separately.  It just works so well with a magnet on my fridge. So once the baby is born I will probably scan them. But for you all, you get the lower quality version. So just for memory's sake, my weight at my 20 week visit was 162, blood pressure 105 over 70 (or 60). Baby weighs 12 oz. The baby is weighing one day early but thats not enough of a difference to change the due date. Baby's heart-rate was 158. And as I type this the baby is pushing on my lower abdomen and kicking a lot. She must know I'm talking about her.
And I guess more on baby things going on, I'm still super excited and anxious (good anxious, not I want to puke anxious) to see what people are giving me as hand me downs. I remember looking through the stuff people gave me for Grant and loving the adorable little outfits.  So I am excited for that. Then I can really solidify what I need on my baby registry. I have been obsessed with registering this time around probably because we are having a girl. I have been trying to decide between three strollers: The Duoglider by Graco, the Ready2Grow Sit and Stand by Graco, or the Jeep Traveler Tandem double stroller. I'm a fan of Jeep since I already have their single stroller. The Duoglider is lighter than the Ready2Grow and the Jeep one weighs more than both. I guess I'm hoping for the Duoglider that can have the Graco Snugride 35 car seat attached. I know one version of it can only have the regular snugride car seat. I also was researching top of stair gates for babies. This little girl will be crawling by the time we  move so we will need that gate.  I think the most affordable durable one would be the Evenflo Top-of-Stair plus wood gate.
I also decided that we were going to use the den as the baby's nursery.  Yay! I get to decorate a baby bedroom! With Grant he got a little baby corner in our room and then when we moved I didn't feel much at liberty to do what I wanted to his room since we were living with my parents for a while. Without knowing it we live in a potential three bedroom apartment! So first I was not excited to do that because we watch movies in our den but then we decided that we could find a desk and put that where the crib was going to go and make the den shelves and drawers be all the baby's stuff and that table is perfect as a changing table. so I cleared out the floor of the den and rebuilt the crib and put it in there. I think we will use Grant's dresser in there if we can't fit all the baby clothes in those drawers. Then we can get Grant a bigger dresser since he has bigger clothes, and also put his bedding there too.  So that is basically all the baby prep going on here. I really want to hit up DI to buy a little dress and some cute sandals too. Hmm need a car. Oh well. If you have any input about strollers and gates let me know.

So in case you can't read what the ultrasound tech wrote this is the profile of the foot.  I think its really cute!

This is the bird's eye view of the head and on the top is the hand curled up next to her face.

This is her face. Looks weird but try to look with out thinking it looks like a skull, 2d ultrasounds do that.

This is the heart. The lower are the heart beats. I could see the heart about the size of a cantaloupe on their huge flat screen. Really cool.

Beloved profile picture. However the tech should have taken a more straight on true profile pic. You can tell its at the wrong angle because you can see both sets of rib bones clearly. Still cute though.

And the most awkward to present but most loved pictures is the crotch. Yes she is a girl. I'm sure there is always a slight chance she is a he but we are hoping for the former of course.
I think my favorite is the foot picture. If the profile picture was more on then I might like that one better but they are all great to have!
