Roll over Fred!

So Grant is learning to roll over. He hasn't quite got it down on the floor but when he is in our lap on the couch on his belly he has learned to push on the couch to roll over. Its great to see our little one learning new things and progressing and growing. I'm one of those parents who love to seem him grow. I miss the little infant stage but you know there will be more to come and plenty (5) of babies for that.

Handy Lady!

So our garbage disposal broke last Sunday and this has happened about three times since we have lived here. We have lived here almost 2 years. Anyway, I had just been thawing some chicken in the sink and we pulled the plug and some chicken fell down and also some strawberry tops because I had forgotten about the broken disposal, but not things were getting messy and water was pooling in our sink! Not good and pretty gross too! We thought, "Oh no! Its Sunday and we can't even put in a work order for this to be fixed until Monday! Arg! Plus the fix it guy doesn't even come for a few days after the order has been placed. Usually it wouldn't be a big deal but you know, the circumstances caused for some worry. I decided to look up online to figure out what people do in real world about that problem when you don't have a fix it guy around to help. There was a website that stated the type of problem using physical example to be able to tell what it was and then it told you how to fix the problem. Ours was apparently an electrical issue. And also apparently most garbage disposals have a "reset" button on the bottom of the motor. I told Perry to look for that and push it and then try the switch. It worked! I was so proud of myself and Perry. We did a high five and felt very handy and self sufficient. I know it was an easy fix but it was our first time trying to fix something and it felt awesome. Its not like I will look forward to owning a house and fixing problems but it was sure satisfying to do it ourselves!

8 Hours

Grant slept 8 hours straight last night! I woke up 8 hours after he went to bed and thought it was probably around 4am. I usually wake up around then because it has happened so often I think my biological clock will just wake me up. Well I'm glad it didn't last night and it woke me up later because Grant wasn't even fussing yet and then a couple minutes after I was awake I heard him. He wasn't awake yet but was getting there. He always fusses a little and then is quiet and asleep and keeps doing that for about 10 minutes before he actually wakes up. Anyway.. I was amazed when I looked at the clock and it was 6:45am! I fed him for about 15 minutes and he was out for another hour and a half. Soooo goood! I got the kitchen clean and got to take a shower without worry! 3 Months

Grant is finally three months which means he is now to sleep in his pack n play. He had a slightly rough time with the transition but that was to be expected... it was probably also the fact that he was having his three month growth spurt all at the same time. So he is now getting more used to it. I put up some checkered material that would make him feel more comfortable in his new bed because his other bed had checkers all over it. He stares at it. He now sleeps really good at night most of the time in the pack n play, but won't take naps for the life of me. We try rocking him, walking around, nursing him...etc.. so we have decided its okay to just go on walks at nap time so that he can get used to the time to fall asleep and he does and then maybe we can transition him to his crib. I worried about the sleep-carseat association but since he sleeps in his bed at night I don't think it will be a problem later in his development.

We also bought him a bumbo at a garage sale and a bunch of 3-6 month outfits. He is almost out growing them too! He is getting so big and cute of course!

Grant also loves to suck on our fingers and laugh while changing his diaper.

Wraps, Naps, and a Wonderful Walk

So Grant has been struggling lately to take his naps. He sleep GREAT most of the time at night... say 7 hours, then I feed him and then about 3 hours. Later in the day around 9:30 or 10 I can tell he is tired because he is crabby so I feed him to get him relaxed and put him down. The dilemma is he wakes up like 5 minutes later awake as can be. Sometimes I wait to see if he will fuss himself to sleep but he really just starts to coo and fuss which is cute and I can't resist playing with him. I feel like if he is awake enough to coo.. he must not be that tired, yet he will get crabby once again. At the moment he has been sleeping about a half hour. He used to go down at 11:15 am like clock work and sleep 3-4 hours straight and that would be his name. Sometimes he would sleep another 2 hours around 4pm. Not sure where that routine went. However I can't complain about my lack of sleep deprivation. THAT part is wonderful.

I recently also bought a wrap from a local blogger http://bhacmw.blogspot.com/. We decided that if Grant can sleep while holding him he will probably sleep in this while we do what we need to do while he should be in his bassinet. Lately we carry him around while he is awake. I'm not sure how much he likes it, but hopefully we will find more ways to use it. There are several holds we have yet to try. Grant is so cute and funny looking in it, with his head poking out!

On Sunday I made a resolution to get back to exercising no matter what. I was doing really well postpartum for a while until I started my internship, and that threw my groove off. I would also put Grant down for a nap, exercise, clean, and whatever else needed to be done and now I don't have time by the time I get him down. So I went on an hour walk with him in the stroller. It was amazing! I know it sounds like an exaggeration but being couped up in an apartment that is tiny, with a baby who is bored of being in the apartment can really UNrelax you. I first thought I would go for 30 minutes since that is the recommend daily amount for adults, but by that time I was just so energized and rejuvenated from the experience I needed to go longer. It was sunny, low wind, about 50 degrees, green grass and trees, birds chirping....aka Wonderful! Plus I have healed so much that I could walk for ever. I will eventually start to run but I have to work up to it. So basically I have made the no excuse policy. I can go with Grant, especially if it is nap time and has been fed, he will fall asleep. Grant enjoyed the walk, fell asleep for half of it and probably enjoyed the fresh air. I know he can see things better now too so I'm sure he found some good things to look at.

Happy Mother's Day!

My first mother's day. It was nice. Perry and Grant got me a bouquet of pinkish-white roses and Sweet pea scented oils that I can have out if I want. It was nice. I enjoyed the talks given at church that were about all the great qualities of women. It was cool that the talks finally directly related to me. I know they do to other women with out children, but it is a little different when you have actually born a child. I was nursing Grant during it so I felt like I was bonding with him and got somewhat teary-eyed. The ward handed out these cool picture frames with our last name on it... well I have a picture. I basically didn't get to sit in during any of the lessons today since Grant woke up from his nap because he was too hot and he finally settled down right before church was done and then he didn't really stay napping at home. Now he is fussy and tired but we don't want to go to bed just yet because it is only 8. I guess the next hour might go by fast. Anyway, we grilled on our little grill for lunch and I made some banana bread this evening. It has been a good day overall. Some updates with Grant are that he had discovered his hands and feet. Very cute! He likes to also watch dad play in his basketball games.

Grasping :) !

Grant has begun to grasp objects in his hand. Basically he is interested in toys now and I have never seen that before so it's exciting. So if you shake a toy in front of his face he will try to grab it. It takes him several tries sometimes but he gets it eventually. It is fun! Before when you shook a toy at him he would look right through it and stare at you. Which is fine because I enjoy playing with him and talking to him. But anyway he grabs things and he grabs my hair and my clothes and his own clothes. I just love watching him grow!
